Women's Basketball Preview: Lee

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team prepares for a three-game homestand to close out the 2015-16 season as the Lady Choctaws (5-17, 3-16 Gulf South Conference) face Lee University on Thursday, Feb. 18. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
Thursday marks the fourth meeting between MC and Lee. The Flames lead the series with a 3-0 advantage following a 91-68 win on Jan. 11 in Cleveland, Tenn.
 
With a total of nine blocks over the weekend, junior Carla Clemmons has made her mark in the record book among single season leaders and now among the program's all-time leaders. The Rome, Ga., native has 42 blocks this season which ranks second in a single-season, but now stands ninth in career blocks. Clemmons tied a career-high with five blocks at North Alabama and followed with four rejections at UAH en route to posting her fourth double-double. Clemmons leads the team in blocks and ranks third in scoring with 12.8 points per game and second in rebounds with 6.6 per contest.
 
Kristen Sampson and Allie Hill have proven to be dangerous from behind the arc as the duo ranks in the top 10 in 3-point field percentage. Sampson, who leads the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game, is sixth all-time with a 36.4 clip from behind the arc in just two seasons with MC. The Jackson, Miss., native is tied for fifth in 3-point field goals made with 60 and is seventh in attempts with 165.
 
Hill is seventh in program history shooting 34.6 percent from the 3-point line. The Plainfield, Ill., product is ninth in 3-pointers made with 45.
 
This season, Sampson and Chloe Roberts are proving to be leaders from behind the arc. Sampson is seventh in 3-pointers made with 31 and seventh in attempts with 93. Roberts, a sophomore who is second in scoring averaging 13.1 points, is tied for ninth in makes with 30 in her first season with the team. The Reagan, Tenn., native is tied for fourth in attempts with 99.
 
Lee enters riding a two-game losing streak after falling against West Alabama (78-71) and West Georgia (77-76) last weekend on their home floor. The Flames are 6-3 away from Paul Dana Walker Arena on the season. LU is led by the third leading scorer in the conference in Erin Walsh, who is averaging 18.1 points per game, and the conference's second leading rebounder in Christina Johnson, who is averaging 10.1 boards.
 
Following Thursday night, Mississippi College hosts Shorter University on Saturday, Feb. 20 in the second of a three-game homestand to conclude the season. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
