CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team fell in the series finale to Delta State University, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at University Field.
The Lady Choctaws (4-5, 0-3 GSC) lost the three-game series to the Lady Statesmen (10-3, 3-0 GSC), coming up short in both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday.
After DSU jumped ahead with a run in the first inning, freshman
Kristen Qualls led off the second with an RBI double and came home to score on an RBI single from freshman
Cheyenne Mathews.
A solo home run in the third and an RBI single in the fourth extended the Lady Statesmen lead to 3-1.
Junior
Tylan Buckley cut into the lead with her second home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth inning to make the score 3-2.
In the final inning, MC would put three base-runners on and two in scoring position, the DSU wriggled off the hook to keep the Lady Choctaws scoreless and secure the win.
Freshman
Penny Nichols (2-3) took the loss for MC, allowing seven hits with three strikeouts. Taylor Johnson (2-2) picked up the win for DSU with three strikeouts.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Miles College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
