Offense Breaks Out in 95-93 Loss at Shorter

ROME, Ga. --- Despite a 95-93 loss to Shorter University on Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop-King Centre, the Mississippi College men's basketball team scored a season-high in points and shot a season-high 57% from the floor.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws (3-3, 0-3 GSC) scored the game's first four points and after a jumper by senior DeOndre Haynes with 13:41 remaining in the first half, the game was tied 15-15.
- The Hawks (8-1, 2-1 GSC) would go on an 8-0 run and take a lead they would not relinquish, including posting a 44-38 lead at halftime.
- Shorter's largest lead of the game came with 10:01 remaining when Yephnick Adelphonse nailed a three-pointer to go ahead 76-62.
- The Choctaws would chip away at the advantage, and freshman Brandon Boston cut the lead to just two in the final seconds, but the Hawks were able to run out the clock.

KEY STATS
- The Choctaws shot a season-high 57.1% (36-of-63) from the field, led by Haynes, who went 11-of-13 for a team-high 22 points. Haynes had a team-high seven rebounds and five assists in the game.
- Junior Antonio Johnson went 5-of-10 from the three-point line in the second half, scoring all 21 of his points in the second 20 minutes.
- The nation's leading scorer, Phil Taylor, continued his scoring tear with 52 points, going 15-of-28 from the field, 9-of-17 from the three-point line and 13-of-14 from the foul line. He was averaging over 35 points per game on the season.
- Cedric Guillaume was the only other Hawk in double-figures with 11 points.
- Boston and senior Byron McCall were also in double-figures for the Choctaws with 15 and 12, respectively. Boston's 15 were a career-high for the freshman.

- The Choctaws will have some time off for Christmas break before getting back on the court on December 29th when they travel to Hattiesburg to face William Carey.
