PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team outshot the Lee University Lady Flames 3-2 in penalty kicks in a dramatic semifinals bout to move on in the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tournament on Friday evening.
Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard on the evening, as 90 minutes of regulation, plus two overtime period's failed to determine a winner; forcing the game to be decided by penalty kicks.
It was freshman
Katie Taylor that sent home the successful kick for MC (13-4-2) that gave them the advantage in PK's, and rightfully booked the Lady Choctaws first ever trip the GSC Championship match versus West Florida on Sunday.
The Lady Choctaws took six shots in the contest, with one shot on goal for the evening. MC took five shots in the first half, and one in the second.
In goal,
Andrea McDonald was nothing short of spectacular for the Lady Choctaws. The sophomore netminder went a perfect 8-8 on save opportunities, with several big saves down the stretch for the Lady Choctaws that kept them in the game. McDonald recorded her sixth shutout of the season, while seeing her record go to 10-4-2.
Taylor led all Lady Choctaws with three shots taken on the night.
Lauren Smith finished with two shots, including the MC's lone shot on goal.
Emma Claire Furman also recorded a shot for the Lady Choctaws on the night.
The Lady Choctaws took two corner kicks in the contest, to the Lady Flame's six. Neither club committed an offside infraction, while MC was tagged for 10 fouls and Lee for seven. MC was the recipient of the game's only yellow card that was handed out.
Up next for the Lady Choctaws, they will face off against West Florida in the Championship Match on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Choctaws knocked off the Argonauts 1-0 back on Oct. 27 at home in their last meeting.
