Lady Choctaws Fall to West Florida in GSC Finals

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team fell to the Argos of the University of West Florida 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the 2016 GSC Postseason Tournament. The loss drops MC's record to 13-5-2 on the season.
                                                                   
The Lady Choctaws took eight shots in the contest, with four shots on goal. MC took one shot in the first half, and seven in the second half.
 
Defense prevailed early, as neither team was able to crack the scoreboard through the first 45 minutes. The Choctaws saw their best scoring opportunity from Katie Taylor, when she fired in a shot that was saved by UWF keeper Katelyn Burkhardt in the 16th minute.
 
Marjorie Boilesen scored the game-winning goal for West Florida in the 74th minute, when she knocked in her 12th score of the year on a free kick from 25 yards out. Kaley Ward doubled the lead for UWF in the 78th minute, when she found the back of the net for her 14th goal of the season.
 
The Lady Choctaws tallied three shots on goal in the second half from Caitlin Hayes, Samantha Carson and Liza Wise.
 
Hayes and Carson both took a team-high two shots on the afternoon, with a shot on goal apiece. Taylor and Wise added a shot on goal, while Lauren Smith and Kyra Montes both also recorded a shot taken during the match.
 
In Goal, Andrea McDonald grabbed eight saves on 10 attempts. The sophomore keeper tallied 16 saves over a two-game slate in the conference semi-finals and final's matches. McDonald's record dropped to 10-5-2 with the loss.
 
McDonald, Hayes and Madison Leonard were all honored postgame as members of the 2016 GSC All-Tournament team for their efforts during the tournament. 
 
MC took one corner kick in the contest, compared to UWF's six. The Lady Choctaws did not commit an offside infraction, while the Argos committed one. MC was tagged for 10 fouls, while UWF was whistled for 12. MC was the recipient of one yellow card, while UWF was handed out two.
