Lady Choctaws Knock Off Henderson State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2016-17 season with a 74-72 win over Henderson State on Tuesday evening at A.E. Wood Coliseum. MC sits 1-1 on the campaign while HSU falls to 2-3.
 
KEY STATS
  • Mississippi College posted four players in double figures led by 18 points from Ashley Minor. The point total marked a season-high for the Natchez, Miss., native and was two off her career-high.
  • Toni Woods posted her first double-double of the season with 14 points and team-best 14 rebounds.
  • Lanae' Bickham scored a season-high 14 points in the win.
  • Cortrice Golden added 13 points to surpass her season-high of 11 points in the setback to Lane College in the opener.
  • Haleigh Henson led Henderson State with 22 points.
  • The Lady Choctaws outscored Henderson State in the paint, second chance points and bench points. The Navy and Gold outscored the Lady Reddies 22-6 in bench points and 23-12 in second chance points. MC added a 44-30 advantage in points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mississippi College erased a 14-point lead to claim the two-point victory. The two squads exchanged eight lead changes and saw four times during the contest.
  • The Lady Choctaws took their first lead of the game, 52-50, at the 3:33 mark of the third quarter on a jumper by Golden.
  • A pair of Brittany Branum free throws gave Henderson State a five-point lead, 65-60, with 5:34 left in the game.
  • A Lady Choctaw 13-8 run led to a 73-72 lead with 41 seconds left in the game. Bickham hit the backend of a pair of free throws with six seconds left to clinch the game. Lexis Weber had a shot at the buzzer for HSU, but short as Golden collected the rebound.
