Clinton, Miss. --- Lauren Smith's successful header in overtime lifted the Mississippi College Women's soccer team 2-1 over West Georgia in round one of the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tournament.

The Lady Choctaws (13-4-1) outshot the Wolves 14-3 in the contest, with nine shots on goal, compared to UWG's one. MC took five shots in the first half, seven in the second half and two in overtime.

Despite outshooting West Georgia 5-3 in the first half, it was the Wolves that took the lead into halftime, after Susana Abundiz got West Georgia on the board first with a score to make it 1-0 in the 28
th minute.

MC tied things up in the 59
th minute, when Smith set up
Gaylynn Cooper for the equalizer and her first score of the season. The 1-1 score would hold steady, as neither team was able to pull away from the other after 90 minutes of regulation.

Smith scored the golden goal in overtime in the 99
th minute, when
Meghan Mauzy delivered a high-arching ball off of a corner kick that found Smith's head for the game-winning score.

Samantha Carson and
Sydney Oliver recorded a team-high three shots on the afternoon, with three of Carson's and two of Oliver's being on frame. Smith and Cooper both tallied two shots, with two of Smith's and one of Coopers coming on goal.
Lauren Dodge registered a shot on goal, while
Sara Hodges,
Caitlin Hayes and
Katie Taylor all took a shot in the contest.

In Goal,
Andrea McDonald allowed just one goal in 90 plus minutes of play. The sophomore goalkeeper improved her record to 10-4-1.

MC took four corner kicks in the contest, while holding West Georgia to zero. MC committed four offside infractions, to UWG's one. The Lady Choctaws were whistled for seven fouls, while the Wolves were tagged for nine. West Georgia received the game's lone yellow card in the 90
th minute.

The Lady Choctaws return to action on Friday, Nov. 4 when they travel to Pensacola, Fla. to face off against Lee Unviersity in the Semi-finals of the GSC Postseason tournament. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
