CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team knocked off the Lady Wolves of the University of West Georgia 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, improving their record to 9-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in Gulf South Conference Play. The win marks the Lady Choctaw's fifth straight, including their fourth straight victory in which the opponent was held scoreless.

"Today was a solid win for our program," Head Coach
Darryl Longabaugh said. "I thought our girls handled their business with a lot of professionalism today, and played together with a lot of integrity." Â

Hannah Bailey and
Caitlin Hayes led the way offensively for MC, both scoring a goal each. Hayes's score brought her season total to four, good enough for second on the team; while Bailey's goal accounted for her third of the 2016 campaign.

Kyra Montes and
Lauren Kate Carter were each responsible for an assists on the afternoon. Carter picked up her team-high and GSC -leading 7
th assist, while Montes contributed for her 4
th.

MC outshot West Georgia 14-7 in the contest, with four shots on goal to UWG's two. The Lady Choctaws took eight shots in the first half, and six in the second half.

Bailey scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 28
th minute, when she played a pass from Montes into the back of the net to give MC the 1-0 advantage. The Lady Choctaws doubled their lead to 2-0 when Hayes headed in a well-struck ball from Carter, giving way to the match's final score.

Lauren Smith and
Meghan Mauzy took a team-high three shots on the afternoon, with one of Smith's being on frame. Montes and Hayes both took two shots apiece, with Hayes accounting for a shot on goal. Bailey and
Emma Claire Furman both put up a shot on goal, while Carter and
Liza Wise also took a shot in the contest.

The Lady Choctaw defense was able to hold steady on the afternoon, as they added to their impressive run of four straight victories without allowing a score. MC has not allowed a goal from an opponent in their last 363 minutes of play.

In goal,
Andrea McDonald was a perfect 2-2 on save opportunities en route to grabbing her fourth shutout of the season; which ranks her second in the entire conference. The sophomore netminder improved her record to 8-2-1 for the season.

Both teams took two corner kicks apiece, while both also being tagged for one offside infraction. MC was whistled for seven fouls, to West Georgia's four. West Georgia was handed out two yellow cards, and MC was given one.

The Lady Choctaws return to action on Sunday, Oct. 17 when they travel to Florence, Ala. to take on the University of North Alabama in a GSC contest. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
