Choctaws Salvage Senior Day with Last-Minute Goal

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team concluded their regular season with a dramatic 1-0 victory over the Bison of Harding University on Sunday Afternoon.

With the win, MC finishes up the regular season at 10-3-2, and 7-1-1 in GSC Play.

Fittingly enough, it was senior Jorge Delgado who stole a pass for MC at midfield, and took it the rest of the way for the lone score of the game in the 88th minute; on a day where 12 seniors were recognized prior to the contest. The goal marked Delgado's team-leading 10th of the season.

"It's always good to close out the regular season on a win, especially for our seniors," Head Coach Kevin Johns said. They've had a good run here and have a great opportunity to potentially add some more hardware to their collection later in the week."

The Choctaws took 15 shots in the contest, with six shots on goal. MC took seven shots in the first half, and eight in the second.

Oliver Fahling led all MC players with four shots taken, and two shots on goal. Dominic Snee accounted for three shots taken, with two of them being on frame. Delgado recorded two shots, with a shot on goal. Horacio Gutierrez Jr. put up a shot on goal, while George Fradenburg, Derek Marshall, Bastian Busch, Victor Marinho and Benaiah Preston all also took a shot in the match.

In Goal, Hayden Mays was a perfect 4-4 on saves opportunities, en route to grabbing his first shutout of the season. Mays improved his record to 2-1 on the year with the victory.

MC took three corner kicks in the contest, to Harding's four. The Choctaws did not commit an offside infraction, while the Bison were tagged for six. Fourteen fouls were committed in total, with eight coming from MC and six from Harding. The Bison were the recipients of the game's lone yellow card in the 86th minute.

The Choctaws will return to action on Friday, Nov. 4 when they open up play as the host in the semi-finals of the GSC Postseason Tournament.  Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
