CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Tigers of the University of West Alabama on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tournament.
The Choctaws (10-4-2) took five shots in the contest, with one shot on goal. MC took three shots in the first half, and two in the second.
Jean-Baptiste Meyniel provided the lone score for either team in the contest. He was able to find the back of the net in the 16
th minute on a strike from 25 yards out, for the eventual game-winning score for the Tigers.
The Choctaws saw their best scoring opportunity in the 27
th minute, when
Horacio Gutierrez Jr. connected for a shot that clanked off of the crossbar.
The Choctaws had to take to the pitch Friday with several key pieces suffering from nagging injuries. Conference Player of the Year
Humberto Pelaez did not participate in today's game due to a knee injury, while GSC First Team selections
Jorge Delgado,
Jacob Farthing and
Ben Roberts all saw limited action due to injuries.
Elliot Rimmer provided the lone shot on goal for MC, with Delgado,
Dinho Zwane, Gutierrez and
Javier Avelar each registering a shot.
In Goal,
Hayden Mays took the loss, dropping his record to 2-1 on the season. The sophomore goalkeeper was 1-2 on save opportunities in 90 minutes between the posts.
The Choctaws took four corners in the contest, compared to the Tigers 10. MC committed zero offside infractions, while UWA committed two. West Alabama was tagged for 13 fouls, while MC was whistled for eight. The Choctaws were the recipient of one yellow card, while the Tigers were handed out three.
