Men’s Soccer Falls to Flames for First GSC Loss of Season

Cleveland, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team suffered their first loss against a Gulf South Conference of the season on Friday afternoon, falling 1-0 to the Flames of Lee University.
                                          
The loss marks only the second time this season MC has fell to an opponent, as their record drops to 9-2-1 for the season. The Choctaws GSC record now sits at 7-1 for the year.
 
The Choctaws outshot the Flames 10-8 in the contest, with both teams accounting for three shots on goal apiece. MC took three shots in the first half, and seven in the second.
 
Samaan Williams provided the lone goal for both sides, as he was able to find the back of the net in the 65th minute. David Perez helped set up the score.
 
Jorge Delgado led all Choctaws with three shots taken, and one shot on goal. Delgado saw two of the better scoring opportunities for MC on the afternoon, but both went for moot as his first good look resulted in a save in the 27th minute, and his second clanged off of the crossbar in the 55th minute. George Fradenburg and Jacob Farthing provided the other two shots on goal for the Choctaws.
 
Ben Roberts accounted for two shots on the afternoon, while Connor Johnson, Horacio Gutierrez Jr. and Eduardo Juarez all took a shot in the contest.
 
In Goal, Humberto Pelaez converted on two of three save opportunities. The junior goalkeeper saw his record drop to 8-2-1.
 
MC took two corners, to Lee's one. Both teams where tagged for two offside infractions apiece. The Choctaws were whistled for 13 fouls, while the Flames had eight called against them.
 
The Choctaws return to action on Sunday, when they travel to Rome, Ga. to take on the Hawks of Shorter University. Match time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CST.
