Volleyball Preview: Christian Brothers

CLINTON, Miss. --- After four consecutive matches away from A.E. Wood Coliseum, the Mississippi College volleyball team returns to action on its home floor on Thursday, Oct. 20 as it hosts Christian Brothers University in Gulf South Conference action. First serve is at 7 p.m.

The Lady Choctaws look to snap a six-game skid this season and end a five-game drought against CBU after falling in straight sets in Memphis, Tenn., earlier this season.

Jamila Biglow and Madison Kimes ranked among the statistical leaders at the NCAA Division II South Region Crossover over the weekend. Biglow, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., ranked ninth in total blocks with 10. Kimes, from St. Louis, Mo., finished tied for 14th in service aces with four. Both performances were second among GSC players.

Jenna Campbell leads a trio of Lady Choctaws with 100-plus kills. The League City, Texas, native has 177 kills on the season, including nine double-digit performances.

Kayana Mitchell and Shelby Grace Mays each joined Campbell with 100 or more kills over the weekend. Mitchell, who is 10th in school history with 449 kills, ranks second on the team with 110 while Mays has 102. Biglow sits just outside the century mark with 99 entering Thursday's affair.

Bailee Berringer and Sydney Chandler continue to direct the MC offense. The duo have combined for 646 of the team's 784 assists. Berringer leads the team with 338 while Chandler has distributed 308. Both setters rank in the top 10 in program history in assists.

Defensively for Mississippi College, Biglow, Mitchell and Kimes lead the charge. Kimes has 275 digs on the season. The junior defensive specialist has totaled 622 digs in her career which moved her into eighth all-time in the category.

While Kimes defends the backline for the Navy and Gold, Biglow and Mitchell provide the wall at the net. The duo rank among the program leaders in blocks. This season, Biglow ranks second with 56 blocks and 118 in her two seasons with the Lady Choctaws, which is 10th. Mitchell leads the squad with 57 total blocks on the campaign and is fifth in school history with 191.

CBU is riding a five-game, losing streak as it enters Thursday night. The Lady Bucs are led by five-time, GSC Freshman of the Week, Emma Lenoir. The outside hitter has a team-best 270 kills on the season and ranks third in digs with 182. Jessica Reber helps pilot the Black and Red. Reber leads the team with 687 assists and 31 service aces, second in digs with 203 and third in blocks with 37.

Thursday's match is the first of three straight at home for Mississippi College. MC returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 against Union University before closing out the three-game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 25 against West Florida.
