Women's Basketball Preview: Shorter

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 9, as the Lady Choctaws (4-7, 2-6 Gulf South Conference) travel to Rome, Ga., to face Shorter University. Tip is slated for 1 p.m. central.

The Series
Saturday marks the third meeting between the two schools. Both teams claimed victories on their home floors last season. MC won 61-54 on Jan. 10 while the Hawks picked up a 70-57 on Feb. 21.

Last Time Out (vs. North Alabama)
Kristen Sampson scored a career-high 32 points as Mississippi College defeated North Alabama 91-80 in Gulf South Conference play. The point total marks the most for the Lady Choctaws this season and the most since hanging 91 on Lane College last season.
Sampson's 32 points surpasses her previous high of 25 points against Lane as she becomes the first Lady Choctaw with 30-plus points since Rosemary Green scored 30 against Howard Payne on Jan. 12, 2008. Sampson also grabbed nine rebounds, missing her first career double-double by one board.
Chloe Roberts and Carla Clemmons joined the Jackson, Miss., native in double figures. Clemmons supplied 13 and grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds to earn her second double-double of the season. Roberts, a Reagan, Tenn., native continues to impress in her first season as she scored 17 points. She's scored in double-digits in all 11 games.
The win over the Purple and Gold marks the seventh in the series for Mississippi College and the first since Feb. 6, 1993.
MC shot a season-best 61 percent from the field and for the second time this season outrebounded its opposition. The Navy and Gold grabbed 36 boards and held a plus-seven advantage on the glass.

LONG RANGE DANGER
Kristen Sampson and Allie Hill have proven to be dangerous from behind the arc as the duo ranks in the top 10 in 3-point field goal percentage. Sampson is second all-time with a 39.3 clip from behind the arc. The Jackson, Miss., native is eighth in 3-point field goals made with 46.
Hill is tied for seventh in program history shooting 34.3 percent from the 3-point line. The Plainfield, Ill., product is eighth 3-pointers away from cracking the top 10 as she currently has 35.

Mississippi College Leaders
A trio of Lady Choctaws are averaging double figures scoring. Chloe Roberts leads the team with 15.5 points per game while Kristen Sampson sits just behind the Reagan, Tenn., sophomore averaging 15.3. Carla Clemmons rounds out the group with 13.3 points per contest. A native of Rome, Ga., Clemmons ranks second in rebounds with 6.8 per game. Toni Woods leads the Navy and Gold on the glass with 7.7 boards per outing.
