Women's Basketball Preview: North Alabama

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team looks to return to the win column on Monday, Jan. 4 as the Lady Choctaws (3-7, 1-6 Gulf South Conference) host the University of North Alabama in conference play. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.

The Series
Mississippi College is 6-4 all-time against North Alabama, which began on Jan. 21, 1990. The Lady Choctaws, who won five straight from 1990 until 1992, are 4-1 at A.E. Wood Coliseum against UNA. The Lions claimed the first meeting between the two schools and have won three of the last four. MC's last win in the series came on Feb. 6, 1993 in Clinton. North Alabama took both contests last season in the renewal of the series.

Last Time Out (vs. UAH)
The Lady Choctaws tied a season-high, 3-point percentage, but it wasn't enough to topple UAH on Saturday afternoon. MC shot 50 percent from behind the arc, but managed just a 33.3 clip from the field. Kristen Sampson led the squad with 18 points while Chloe Roberts added 13 points. Carla Clemmons and Toni Woods each registered seven rebounds to lead the team and combined for nearly half of the squads' 29 boards. Dina Saunders led UAH with 22 points.

Mississippi College Leaders
Chloe Roberts leads Mississippi College with 15.4 points per game this season. The Reagan, Tenn., native has totaled double figures in all 10 outings for the Lady Choctaws this season. Kristen Sampson and Carla Clemmons join the sophomore in double-digits. Sampson is averaging 13.7 points while Clemmons is close behind with 13.3 points per game. Toni Woods paces the team on the glass. The Lafayette, La., native is averaging 8.2 boards in her first season in Clinton.

Breaking Down North Alabama
North Alabama enters Monday riding a three-game, losing streak after falling at Delta State on Saturday afternoon. The Lions, which are 2-10 on the season and 1-6 in the GSC, are winless this season away from Flowers Hall. KeKe Gunter leads UNA with 13.8 points and 4.9 rebounds on the season. Elise Holden ranks second on the team with 4.6 boards per contest.
