Women's Basketball Preview: Lee

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Monday, Jan. 11 as it travels to Lee University. Tip is slated for 5 p.m. central. MC is 4-8 on the season and 2-7 in Gulf South Conference play.
 
The Series
Monday's contest marks the third meeting between MC and the Flames. Lee leads the series that began last season as it claimed a 66-44 win in A.E. Wood Coliseum on Jan. 12 and followed with a 74-53 victory in Cleveland, Tenn. On Feb. 19.
 
Last Time Out (at Shorter)
Mississippi College fell 65-55 at Shorter University on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Choctaws fought to tie the contest at 41-all after three quarters, but the Hawks outscored the squad 24-14 in the final period to gather the win. MC shot a season-best 90.5 percent from the charity stripe in the setback as Kristen Sampson and Chloe Roberts led the team in scoring. Sampson posted a team-best 15 points while Roberts added 12. Carla Clemmons paced the team on the glass with 10 rebounds.
 
Mississippi College Leaders
Kristen Sampson and Chloe Roberts sit atop the leading scorers for Mississippi College this season. Sampson and Roberts are each averaging 15.3 points per game this season. Roberts, a native of Reagan, Tenn., has scored in double figures in all 12 games this season while the Jackson, Miss., native, Sampson, has posted double-digits in 11 contests. Carla Clemmons joins the duo with 12.8 points per game. Clemmons along with Toni Woods guide the efforts on the glass. Woods leads the team with 7.6 boards while Clemmons averages 7.1 rebounds.
 
Breaking Down Lee
Lee is 10-3 on the season and 7-2 in the Gulf South Conference following a 76-50 loss to Delta State on Saturday. The Flames, which leads the conference in blocks with 4.29 per game and has outrebounded its opponents by 10 this season, are led by a trio of players averaging double figures scoring. Erin Walsh leads the unit with 15.9 points per game. Carrie Cheeks and Haris Price are averaging 11.1 and 10.8 points respectively. Cheeks also sits among the leaders in rebounds with 7.3 per contest – which ranks second -  while Christina Johnson paces the squad with 9.7 rebounds per game.
 
Next Up
Following the Monday outing, Mississippi College wraps up the three-game, road stretch at in-state rival Delta State University on Saturday, Jan. 16. Tip in Cleveland, Miss., is slated for 2 p.m.
