CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team opened the 2015 campaign with a pair of home setbacks to Alcorn State and Tougaloo College. The Lady Choctaws were nipped 3-2 by Tougaloo after falling 3-0 to ASU.

Jenna Campbell and
Kayana Mitchell led the squad with 22 and 20 kills respectively on the day. Campbell paced the team with 17 kills in the five-set match with the Bulldogs while Mitchell chimed in 11 kills in the contest.
Ashton King added 14 kills while
Shelby Grace Mays also tabbed in 14 in her collegiate debut.

Freshman
Bailee Berringer dished out 49 assists in the doubleheader to lead the Blue and Gold, including 33 in the night cap. Sophomore
Sydney Chandler added 33 assists.

After falling back 2-1 of TC in the second match of the day, the Lady Choctaws battled back to knot the contest at 2-all and force a deciding fifth set. The two teams exchanged leads over the first 18 points, but TC grabbed a point advantage at 10-9 and rattled off five of the final eight points to notch the victory.

In the opener, ASU grabbed the first two sets, but the Lady Choctaws rallied back to claim set three and trail 2-1. The Braves used an impressive attack in the fourth set posting a clip of .385 to claim the set and the match.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Sept. 4 as it travels to Memphis, Tenn., to face Bellarmine University and Lindenwood University on the campus of Christian Brothers University. The first match against BU is slated for 2 p.m. with the final match of the day targeted for 4:30 against Lindenwood.
