Lady Choctaws Take First Loss of the Season Against West Alabama 3-2

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team dropped their first match of the season 3-2 to West Alabama on Sunday afternoon at Longabaugh Field.

The Lady Choctaws (6-1-1, 2-1 GSC) got off to a good start as freshman Jess Davenport (Widness England) scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist by senior Sayit Mejia Bello (Bogota Colombia) in the 27th minute of play. Bello then took the corner for MC in the 30th minute of play serving it to sophomore Cailtin Hayes (Warrington, England) who headed the ball into the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. The Lady Choctaws entered the half with a 2-0 lead over the Tigers. 

The Tigers (5-2, 3-0 GSC) then came back in the second half as Perri Lambert scored an unassisted goal in the 58th minute. In the 64th minute of play Katy Morris passed it off to Natailie Mooney who hit the back of the net bringing the score to 2-2. The Tigers then took the lead in the 80th minute of play as Kirsten Reilly recorded her third goal of the season off a helper by Rianna Gurvitz bringing the final score to 3-2. 

The Lady Choctaws outshot the Tigers 15-10. Both MC freshman Andrea McDonald (New Orleans, La.) and Tiger goalie Issy Foster made three saves apiece. 

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to face West Georgia at 4:00 p.m.
