Lady Choctaws Earn 2-2 Draw at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team went on the road and picked up a 2-2 draw against the University of West Georgia on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Choctaws (6-1-2, 2-1-1 GSC) and the Wolves (5-4-1, 3-2-1 GSC) went scoreless through the first half, but it was MC that put up eight shots to just two for UWG.

In the second half, the Wolves got on the scoreboard first when Alexis Lewis scored on an assist from Cortney Emmert in the 57th minute.

Freshman Samantha Carson would tie the game in the 63rd minute when she scored her first goal of the season with an unassisted tally.

The Lady Choctaws took their first lead of the match in the 74th minute when freshman Jess Davenport scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season with a penalty kick.

Just when it looked like MC was poised to pick up a GSC road win, Lewis struck again for UWG with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute.

As the match went into overtime, both teams would have chances, but freshman goalkeeper Andrea McDonald kept the score tied with a couple of saves in extra time.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday when they host Valdosta State at 1:00 p.m. at Longabaugh Field in Clinton.
