Second Half Goal Lifts Lady Choctaws to 1-0 Win Over Valdosta

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon at Longabaugh Field.

The Lady Choctaws (7-1-2, 3-1-1 GSC) and the Blazers (3-7, 2-4 GSC) remained scoreless in the first half each putting up three shots apiece.

The Lady Choctaws got on the board early in the second half as junior Sydney Oliver (Kingwood, Texas) passed it off to freshman Jess Davenport (Widness, England) who found the back of the net in the 52nd minute of play, giving MC the lead 1-0. This tallies Davenport's seventh goal of the season to lead the Lady Choctaws. Valdosta State actually put up five shots to MC's four in the second half.

Freshman Andrea McDonald (New Orleans, La.) made two saves in the match tallying her fifth shutout victory of the season. The Blazer's goalie McCall Gardner also made two saves in the very competitive game.

The Lady Choctaws will be on the road next weekend as they travel to Jackson, Tenn. on Friday to face Union at 5:00 p.m.
