Lady Choctaws Continue Best Record in School History with 7-1 Win over Alabama Huntsville

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team defeated Alabama Huntsville 7-1 on Friday afternoon at Longabaugh Field to continue their best start in school history.

The Lady Choctaws (6-0-1, 2-0 GSC) got the scoring going early as Meghan Dodge (Palm Harbor, Fla.) passed it off to freshman Gaylynn Cooper (Jackson, Miss.) who put it in the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. In the 25th minute, freshman Jess Davenport (Widness, England) crossed the ball to sophomore Cailtin Hayes (Warrington, England) who headed in the back of the net recording her fifth goal of the season. 

The Chargers (3-4-1. 0-3 GSC) attempted to come back in the 27th minute as Sydney Pfankuch recorded her sixth goal of the season off a helper by Niina Jetsu bringing the score to 2-1 to enter the half. 

MC had a big second half as they tallied five goals. Junior Sydney Oliver (Kingwood, Texas) recorded an unassistedgoal in the 49th minute. The Lady Choctaws were awarded a corner in the 52nd minute and Sayit Mejia Bello (Bogota, Colombia) passed it to Dodge who centered the ball to Madison Leonard (Cantonment, Fla.) who tallied her first goal of the season. Oliver then scored her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute off Davenport's second assist of the game. 

The Last two goals came from Davenport off assists from sophomore Hope Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman Daisy Rodgers (Grapevine, Texas) in the 66th and 73rd minute of play.

The last time the Lady Choctaws scored five goals in one half was on October 24, 2013 against Ozarks. 

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday as they host West Alabama at 1:30 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.
