CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team returns to Gulf South Conference action on Friday, Sept. 25 as the Lady Choctaws (1-11, 0-4 GSC) travel to the University of West Georgia. Match time is slated for 5 p.m. central.
"The West Georgia match comes at a good point in the season for us," said head coach
Peter Cosmiano. "They have already competed against some of the stronger teams in the conference. We're looking for more productivity out of our hitters. We've been working hard to get the best out of them and every position on the floor."
MC seeks its first conference win after falling 3-0 at West Alabama on Tuesday evening.
Kayana Mitchell paced the Blue and Gold's offensive attack in the match with 12 kills, which tied her career-high. The total moves the Southaven, Miss., native to second on the team behind freshman,
Jenna Campbell's 84 kills on the season.
Bailee Berringer and
Sydney Chandler combined for 26 assists at UWA. Berringer registered a team-leading 14 assists while Chandler added 12. Berringer, a product of Dickinson, Texas, has totaled 191 assists on the season. Chandler has compiled 154.
Defensively, Berringer gathered nine digs on Tuesday evening with
Shelby Grace Mays supplied seven digs.
Jamila Biglow collected 2.5 of the Lady Choctaws three blocks.
Pearson Bell leads the team with 155 digs on the season followed by 132 from
Madison Kimes and 126 from Mays. Biglow is second on the team in blocks with 18 while Mitchell has a team-best 30, including six solos. Biglow has four solos on the season.
West Georgia currently stands at 3-5 overall and 0-3 in GSC play. Helen Menchinger leads the team with 90 kills followed by Tiffany Ancrum's 79. Kelcie Zimmer has distributed 132 assists while Casey Roethler has a team-best 112 digs.
Following the Friday evening contest, Mississippi College returns to A.E. Wood Coliseum for a season-long, three-match homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 29 against West Florida. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
