CLINTON, Miss. --- After dropping a five-set, match the night prior, the Mississippi College volleyball team looked to rally on Saturday against Christian Brothers University, but the Lady Choctaws (1-10, 0-3 Gulf South Conference) dropped a tightly contest 3-1 match.
Kayana Mitchell led MC with seven kills while
Shelby Grace Mays added six.
Jordan White and
Jenna Campbell each tabbed five kills.
Sydney Chandler and
Bailee Berringer each dished 15 assists in the match.
Berringer collected a team-best 12 digs while Chandler and
Pearson Bell each added 11 in the four sets.
After CBU (4-5, 1-2 GSC) claimed the first game of the day, 25-23, the Blue and Gold answered in the second frame with a 25-23 win to tie the contest at 1-all heading into the intermission.
The two squads exchanged leads and ties in the opening points of the third set, but after being tied at 17-all, the Lady Bucs rattled off the next three points to take a 20-17 advantage. MC battled back, pulling within 22-21, but again a CBU answered to extend its lead to 24-21. The Lady Choctaws once again pulled within a point at 24-23, but a Lady Bucs' kill closed out the set and place the visitors from Memphis up one game.
In the fourth set, CBU led by as many as 22-17. MC rallied to cut the lead to 22-20, but the Black and Red answered with the next three points to close out the set and match.
Mary Kathryn Miller paced a quartet of double-digit kill's leaders for CBU with 16.
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 22 as it travels to the University of West Alabama. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
