CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team opens Gulf South Conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 15 as the Lady Choctaws (1-7) travel to Valdosta, Ga., to face defending conference champion Valdosta State. Match time at the Complex is set for 5 p.m. central.
The Blue and Gold logged a 3-0 win over Dillard University en route to a 1-3 record at the Millsaps Invitational.
A pair of freshmen pace MC offensively through the first eight matches.
Jenna Campbell has registered 59 kills on the season while
Shelby Grace Mays has tallied 49 kills. The sophomore duo of
Kayana Mitchell and
Ashton King rank third and fourth on the team with 39 and 33 kills respectively.
Setting the offensive production has been a pair of setters. Freshman
Bailee Berringer has dished out 124 assists on the season with sophomore
Sydney Chandler recording 101.
Defensively, freshmen
Pearson Bell and Mays are joined by sophomore
Madison Kimes with 100-plus digs each. Bell leads the team with 128 on the season. Mays ranks second with 104 digs while Kimes has garnered 102.
VSU enters its second match at home with a 4-0 record following a 3-0 win over Columbus State last Tuesday. Antia Rodriquez-Sanchez leads the Blazers with 37 kills and ranks third in digs with 30.
Following the Tuesday night contest, Mississippi College returns to action at A.E. Wood Coliseum on Friday, Sept. 18 in the first of two GSC outings on the weekend. MC hosts Union University at 7 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Christian Brothers on Saturday, Sept. 19.
