Second-Half Surge Gives Lady Choctaws 4-0 Win at Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team scored each of their goals in the second half in a 4-0 win over Ouachita Baptist on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Choctaws (4-0) are now off to their best start since 2008 when MC picked up four straight wins and went on to start 11-1 on the season.

Junior Sydney Oliver got the MC offense going after a scoreless first half, scoring her 2nd goal of the season in the 52nd minute on assists from senior Meghan Dodge and sophomore Hope Smith.

The Lady Choctaws have been a second half team over their first four matches, outscoring their opponent 14-1 over the final 45 minutes.

Senior Sayit Mejia Bello had another big day for MC, scoring her fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 57th minute.

The Bogota, Colombia native also assisted on MC's final two goals of the day as sophomore Caitlin Hayes headed in two more scores in the 80th and 83rd minutes. Hayes has now scored four times in the last two matches. Sophomore Hannah Bailey joined Mejia Bello w/ assists on the corner kick goals from Hayes.

Freshman goalkeeper Andrea McDonald pitched her third shutout of the season, making two saves over the 90 minutes. The New Orleans native has now allowed just one goal over her first 360 collegiate minutes, posting a 0.25 goals against average.

The Lady Choctaws outshot the Lady Tigers (1-2) by a count of 20-9 over the match, also putting nine shots on goal to just two for OBU.

MC will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome Ouachita Baptist to Clinton to finish up the home-and-home series. The match is scheduled to being at 1:00 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.
