JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team dropped a pair of hard fought outings in the opening day of the Millsaps Invitational. The Lady Choctaws (0-6) fell in straight sets in the opener against the host Majors and were nipped 3-2 in the second contest of the day by Philander Smith.Â
Madison Frazier led MC with 15 total kills for the doubleheader while
Shelby Grace Mays and
Jenna Campbell each added 13 kills.
Bailee Berringer paced the squad with 31 assists followed by 29 from
Sydney Chandler.

Defensively,
Pearson Bell led the Blue and Gold with 67 digs while Mays ranked second on the team with 45 digs.
Madison Kimes added 31 in the two contests.

The Lady Choctaws claimed the first two sets against PSC 25-18 and 25-15, but the Panthers rallied back to send the match to five sets with 25-21 and 25-20 wins in sets three and four. MC rallied back in the fifth after trailing 14-8 to knot the contest at 14-all, before dropping the final two points of the match.

In the opener, the Majors knocked off MC 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 as it takes on Dillard and Rhodes in the second day of the Millsaps Invitational. Match times are slated for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
