Caitlin Hayes Lifts Lady Choctaws to 2-0 Win Over Jackson State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team defeated Division I Jackson State, 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Longabaugh Field as sophomore Caitlin Hayes (Warrington, England) scored twice within six minutes.

The first half was competitive as both Lady Choctaws (3-0, 1-0 GSC) and Jackson State (2-4-1) put up seven shots each with no scores.

In the 51st minute of play, freshman Peace Gill (Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England) served a corner across the goal, finding Hayes who headed it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

The second goal of the match was also off a corner kick. In the 56th minute of play senior Sayit Mejia Bello (Bogota, Colombia) passed it off to senior Meghan Dodge (Palm Harbor, Fla.) who crossed it in the air to Hayes who was able to head it into the goal, giving the Lady Choctaws the win, 2-0.

Jackson State put up four shots in the second half to MC's 13. The Lady Tigers goalkeeper, Kylie Christian made five saves throughout the match.

Andrea McDonald was a solid force in goal for the Lady Choctaws making five saves, all coming in the first half.

This is the second straight year the Lady Choctaws have started off the season going 3-0.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Arkedelphia, Ark. to face Ouachita Baptist for a 1:00 p.m. game.
