JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team split a doubleheader with Division I Jackson State on Wednesday night at the JSU Softball Stadium.
The Lady Choctaws (22-15) got a late run to pick up a 5-4 win in the first game, but the Lady Tigers (16-23) scored five runs in the seventh to take a 6-5 walk-off win in the second game.
In the opener, JSU would get the scoring going with a run in the 3rd inning, but MC would answer in the fourth with a four-run frame to take the lead. Sophomore
Megan Everett drove in two runs with a single to highlight the inning.
JSU would come back to tie the game with three runs in the fourth, but senior
Brooke Smitherman broke the tie with an RBI double to score pinch-runner

Elissa Kelly would toss a scoreless 7th inning to collect her second save of the season.

Carlie Sargent (15-7) went 6.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts as the starting pitcher. Senior
Shay Mickens and junior
Ashley Subervielle each led the MC offense with two hits.
In the second game, MC wasted no time getting on the board as Subervielle drove in Mickens with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
The Lady Choctaws would push their lead out to 5-0, capped off by a couple of runs in the 5th inning on an RBI double by senior
Karla Beth Hux and run-scoring single by Smitherman.
The Lady Tigers would cut the lead to 5-1 in the fifth, but they did most of the damage in the 7th inning, scoring five runs with no outs against MC. Ashley Neal had the big blow for JSU with a three-run, walk-off double to win the game.
Mickens and Everett each had two hits for MC to lead the offense. Senior
Lacie Patterson allowed just five hits and an earned run over 5.0 innings.
Katherine Lee took the loss for MC, giving up the five runs in the seventh.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action this weekend when they host Delta State for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
