CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team split their doubleheader with rival Delta State on Saturday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (23-16, 13-12 GSC) won the second game of the doubleheader, 2-1, bouncing back from a 6-0 loss in the opener to the Lady Statesmen (20-17, 7-12 GSC)
In the second game, MC got on the board early in the first inning as sophomore

MC extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth as junior
Madison Oliver got on base and advanced to second off a wild pitch. Senior
Macey Lee drove her in with a single to left field, scoring the eventual game-winning run.
The Lady Statesmen attempted to come back in the sixth inning as Mariah Alvarez doubled home Ashley Mrozinski after she pinch ran for Kaitlin Moore, who doubled to open the inning.
Senior
Lacie Patterson (5-5) pitched a complete game for the Lady Choctaws, scattering seven hits with three strikeouts.
Taylor Johnson (8-4) took the loss for the Lady Statesmen, allowing nine hits, two runs with one strikeout.
In a game that was scoreless through three innings, the Lady Statesmen broke through with four runs in the fourth, highlighted by two-run home run from Kory Watterson.
The Lady Statesmen would tack on runs in the 5th and 7th innings to give the game its final score.
Senior
Shay Mickens led the Lady Choctaw offense, going 4-for-6 in the doubleheader.
Junior
Carlie Sargent (15-8) took the loss for MC. Sargent pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits and allowing four earned runs with five strikeouts.
Shayna Beaver (8-5) took the win for the Lady Statesmen allowing five hits with two strikeouts.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action tomorrow for the finale against Delta State at 11:00 a.m. at the MC Softball Complex.
