CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team dropped the series finale, 2-1 to rival Delta State on Sunday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (23-17, 13-13 GSC) split Saturday's doubleheader with the Lady Statesmen, dropping the first game 6-0 and winning the second game 2-1.
The Lady Statesmen (21-17, 8-12) got all the scoring they needed in the second inning with and RBI double from Mariah Alvarez and a run-scoring single from Kara Lane Nowell.
MC looked to rally in the seventh inning as senior
Shay Mickens singled and stole second to open the inning. After a walk by sophomore
Megan Everett, junior
Ashley Subervielle bunted the runners over and an aggressive Mickens scored all the way from second.
Everett would move over to third on a foul-out by senior
Karla Beth Hux, but senior
Brooke Smitherman flied out to center field to end the game.
Mickens led the MC offense, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. She would go 6-for-10 with two stolen bases on the weekend.
Junior
Kimmie Conley had a multi-hit game also, going 2-for-3.

Carlie Sargent (15-9) took the loss, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing three hits and two earned runs with one strikeout. Senior
Lacie Patterson (5-5) pitched 3.0 innings allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.
Katie Justice (3-3) took the win for the Lady Statesmen, pitching a complete game, scattering eight hits, allowing one earned run with one strikeout.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for a doubleheader against Stillman at 3:30 p.m.
