CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team put the game-tying runs on second and third with two outs in the ninth inning, but they dropped a mid-week contest to William Carey, 5-3, on Wednesday night at Frierson Field.
The Choctaws (11-25) took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning when junior
Logan Ferrell's squeeze bunt drove in junior
Hunter Hall and freshman
Kyle Smith chased home junior
Garrett Odom with a groundout to second base.
The Crusaders (21-19) would grab the lead back in the 5th inning when Tyler Richardson sent a 1-1 pitch over the center field wall to make the score 4-2. Richardson went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
After WC added a run in the sixth, the Choctaws answered back in the seventh as Ferrell sent a two-out single to left field, scoring Hall for the second time.
In the ninth, Hall was hit by a pitch and Odom singled to put runners at first and second. After Ferrell grounded out and moved the runners up, pinch-hitter
J.C. Heflin struck out swinging to end the game.
Junior
Kyle Cumlander (2-5) pitched a solid game, scattering 11 hits with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
Senior
Andy Olmsted had another outstanding outing, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings to keep the Choctaws in the game. He has not allowed a run in 6.0 innings and has not allowed an earned run in 9.0 innings.
Odom led the Choctaw offense with two hits, while Ferrell had a team-high two RBI.
