CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team held Belhaven to one run all day in the doubleheader sweep on Wednesday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (20-12, 11-9 GSC) got on the board early in the first game as senior
Shay Mickens got on base off a walk and stole second in the bottom of the first. Sophomore
Megan Everett singled to the left side allowing Mickens to score off a fielding error.
In the bottom of the second, with bases loaded Everett reached on a fielding error allowing senior
Tori Bankston to score the final run of the game. The Lady Choctaws pulled out a 2-0 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.
Junior
Carlie Sargent (14-5) tossed a shutout for MC allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts.
The Blazer's (16-16) pitcher Julienne Broussard (8-5) took the loss for the Blazers allowing one hit, one run with two strikeouts.
In the second game the Lady Choctaws used a five run second inning to secure their lead.
Brooke Smitherman got walked and made it to third off a double to right center by junior
Madison Oliver. Senior
Tori Bankston singled up the middle scoring Smitherman giving MC the lead 1-0. Senior
Macey Lee scored off a fielders choice from senior
Bethany Fletcher's hit to third base, while putting Bankston on third. Mickens hit a double bringing Bankston into score. Everett had a sacrifice fly to bring home Fletcher. Mickens then scored off a fielding error, giving MC the lead 5-0.
The Blazers attempted a come back in the fifth inning as Danielle Bacon hit a home run over the left field fence bringing the score to 5-1.
The Lady Choctaws picked up two more runs in the fifth inning as junior
Ashley Subervielle singled through the right side. Senior
Karla Beth Hux doubled to left center to bring Subervielle home to score. Pinch runner freshman
Mikayla Carruth scored the final run of the game off a single by Smitherman. The lady Choctaws defeated the Blazers 7-1.
Lacie Patterson (4-5) took the win for the Lady Choctaws allowing just one hit while keeping the Blazers scoreless.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action this Friday at 3:00 p.m. when they travel to Pensacola, Fla. for a three-game series against West Florida.
