PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College softball team lost 1-0 in the opener of a three-game series against the University of West Florida on Friday afternoon at the UWF Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (20-13, 11-10 GSC) and the Argos (12-24, 6-15 GSC) went 6.0 scoreless innings before UWF broke through with two outs in the seventh to pick up the league victory.
In the top of the seventh, senior
Karla Beth Hux led off with a single and pinch-runner
Katherine Lee stole second base and advanced to third on an error with one out. The Lady Choctaws were unable to convert, keeping the game scoreless.
In the bottom of the frame, Jenna Belser led off with a double down the left field line. The Lady Choctaws appeared to get out of the jam when pinch-runner Sarah Adams was cut down at the plate when MC completed a relay from senior

With two outs, pinch-hitter Lou Bernard hit a ball up the middle and beat the play at first base, allowing pinch-runner Jordan Camp to come home to score the walk-off run.
Sargent (14-6) took the tough-luck loss for MC, allowing just six hits with four strikeouts over 6.2 innings. Hux led MC with two hits, but junior
Ashley Subervielle had the only other hit for the Lady Choctaws.
Becca Taylor (6-5) picked up the complete game shutout for UWF, striking out 11 with no walks. Belser led the Argos with two hits in the game.
The Lady Choctaws and Argos will wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
