MOBILE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team picked up a much-needed victory over the University of Mobile, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Choctaws (1-4) had played three ranked Division II teams and a Division I team to open the season, and the victory on Saturday was their first of the season.
They opened with a sweep of doubles action, highlighted by an 8-2 win at #1 by the freshman team of
Petar Damjanovic and
Lucio Menezes.
In singles play, senior
Matthew Martin earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at the #3 position, while freshman
Joan Valy also had an easy match at #1, winning 6-2, 6-4.
Menezes needed three sets for a victory at the #2 singles spot, while Damjanovic and
Jose Rodrigo Gonzalez played tie-breakers to win at #4 and #5, respectively.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Transylvania in Orange Beach, Ala.
