Lady Choctaws Sweep Mid-Week Doubleheader from Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. --- The Mississippi College softball team traveled to face Centenary in a Wednesday doubleheader, coming away with two victories at the CC Softball Complex.

The Lady Choctaws (17-10) opened the evening with a 6-3 win over the Ladies (5-13), while the bats came alive in 10-0 win in the second game.

Junior Karla Beth Hux led the MC offense in the twin-bill, combining to go 4-for-6 with seven RBI and a run scored. She hit her team-leading third home run of the season in the first contest.

In the opener, MC appeared to be heading to an easy victory as they scored four runs in the 1st inning, led by senior Brooke Smitherman and Hux, who each had two-run doubles in the frame.

The Lady Choctaws would extend the lead in the 3rd inning as Hux hit a two-run long ball to score senior Macey Lee.

Laura Perilloux would not allow another run to the Lady Choctaws as she pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

The Centenary offense was able to get on the board in the 6th inning when Anna Dunn and Cadie Hancock homered to cut the score to 6-3 after six innings.

Junior Carlie Sargent (12-4) pitched the first three innings of the game, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts. After the bullpen allowed the Ladies to get back in the game, Sargent re-entered and got the final two outs to clinch the victory.

In the second game, sophomore Megan Everett continued her hot run, as of late, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.

After scoring a run in the 1st on a two-out RBI single by junior Madison Oliver, the Lady Choctaws broke the game open in the second with six runs, aided by a two-run single by Everett and run-scoring singles by Smitherman and Hux.

MC would tack on three more runs in the 5th inning as Everett drove in another and Hux singles home two more.

Senior Lacie Patterson (3-4) was dominant in the circle, allowing just one hit over 4.0 innings, while freshman Katherine Lee tossed a perfect 5th to clinch the win.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action this weekend as they host Shorter University for a three-game set, starting with a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
