Lady Choctaws Drop Heartbreaker in Extra Innings at Lee, 4-3

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College softball team lost in nine innings, 4-3, to Lee University on Monday afternoon at Cleveland High School.

The Lady Choctaws (13-8, 8-5 GSC) opened the game with a 3-0 lead after three innings, as junior Ashley Subervielle doubled home freshman Katherine Lee and senior Shay Mickens. Subervielle would come in to score on an error by the Lady Flames (16-10, 7-7 GSC).

Lee would cut into the lead in the fourth inning when Kaylie Drew hit a two-run home run to make the score, 3-2. The Lady Flames would tie the game in the sixth with a two-out RBI double.

The game went into extra innings, and the Lady Choctaws threatened, putting a runner in third in the eighth and ninth, but could not score.

The Lady Flames scored the winning run in the ninth inning on an MC error.

Subervielle had a big day at the plate for MC, going 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI, reaching base all five times as she also earned three walks.

Junior Carlie Sargent took the tough-luck loss for MC, allowing just two earned runs over 8.2 innings pitched.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Lorman, Miss. for a doubleheader with Alcorn State at noon.
