Oliver's Grand Slam Lifts Lady Choctaws to 12-3 Win at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- Junior Madison Oliver stroked a 2nd inning grand slam to the lift the Mississippi College softball team to a 12-3 series-opening win over West Alabama on Friday afternoon at the UWA Softball Complex.

The Lady Choctaws (14-9, 9-6 GSC) fell behind in the first inning after a sacrifice fly by the Tigers (9-15, 3-12 GSC), but they would score six in the second, highlighted by Oliver's long ball and they would not look back.

UWA hit a two-run home run in their half of the second to cut the lead to 6-3, but MC would take advantage of 11 walks by Tiger pitching to extend the lead.

Senior Tori Bankston drove in two runs with an RBI double in the 5th, while junior Kate Donnelly drove in a run with a single in the 7th.

Junior Carlie Sargent (10-2) earned the win in the circle for the Lady Choctaws. Senior Ashley Vann picked up the save, pitching 3.0 perfect innings to close the game.

Senior Shay Mickens and junior Ashley Subervielle each scored a team-high two runs, while eight different Lady Choctaws posted hits.

The two teams will be back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m.
