CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Lee University on Sunday afternoon at Walker Valley High School.The Lady Choctaws (13-8, 8-5 GSC) fell 7-0 in the opening game, while the Lady Flames (15-10, 6-7 GSC) won the second game, 6-2.
In the opener, the game was scoreless through 4 1/2 innings, but Lee was able to break open the game with five runs, highlighted by a three-run triple from Dominique Hannah.
Senior
Shay Mickens led the MC offense with two hits, while junior
Carlie Sargent (9-2) took just her second loss of the season, allowing six hits and five earned runs with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings pitched.
Leigh Beatenbough scattered five hits with five strikeouts over the complete game shutout for the Lady Flames.
In the second game, Lee took an early lead with a run in the first inning, but junior
Madison Oliver answered in the second inning with her first home run of the season, a solo shot, to tie the game, 1-1.
The Lady Flames grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the third inning, but Oliver struck back again with an RBI double to score senior
Macey Lee and tie the game again.
Lee would add four runs over the final three innings to clinch the doubleheader sweep.
Senior
Lacie Patterson (2-4) took the loss for MC, while Brianna Eichbaum was the winner for Lee. Angie Hughes pitched three perfect innings to earn the save.
The two teams will get back together on Monday for the series finale at 12:00 p.m. (Central).
