CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team fell to #40 Delta State on Saturday in their Gulf South Conference opener, 6-3.
The Choctaws (0-4, 0-1 GSC) began the day with a #2 doubles win as senior
Matthew Martin and freshman
Joan Valy picked up an 8-5 win over Guilermo Cerrato and Arthur Bertieux. The Statesmen won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play.
Valy opened singles action with a three-set win over Niko Ptasizski at #1 (6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-3), while freshman
Lucio Menezes defeated Lionel Gazzo at #2 in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-1). DSU would win the other four matches, with the #3 singles match going three sets as Martin fell to Bertieux (7-5, 5-7, 10-5).
The Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to face Christian Brothers in Memphis at 11:00 a.m.
