Lady Choctaws Sweep Three Game Series from Union in Extra Innings

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team picked up a three-game series sweep of Union (Tenn.) with a 2-1 win in 10 innings on Friday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.

The Lady Choctaws (8-4, 5-1 GSC) swept Union (Tenn.) in the doubleheader on Thursday afternoon with a 3-2 walk-off win and 2-0 victory as senior Lacie Patterson pitched a complete game shutout.

On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs (7-5, 2-4 GSC) got on the board first in the fourth inning as Alex Williams hit a homerun to put Union ahead 1-0.

For the remainder of the game, Patterson and junior Carlie Sargent held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless. They each pitched 5.0 innings and recorded four strikeouts apiece.

The Lady Choctaws came right back in their half of the fourth inning as junior Ashley Subervielle doubled down the right field line to score senior Macey Lee to tie the game, 1-1.

In the 10th inning, Whiney Christian was placed on second base to open the frame for the Lady Bulldogs. After a sacrifice bunt moved her to third base, Sargent struck out the next two batters to keep the game tied 1-1.

In MC's half of the 10th inning, senior Shay Mickens started on second base. Sophomore Megan Everett was hit by a pitch and then Mickens and Everett stole second and third to put two runners in scoring position with no outs.

Macey Lee bunted down the third base line and Mickens was able to score ahead of the throw to give the Lady Choctaws the series sweep with the 2-1 win.

Sargent (5-1) picked up her second win of the weekend, this time out of the bullpen. Kelly Robey (5-4) pitched all 10 innings for Union but took the loss.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Hattiesburg to face William Carey for a doubleheader, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
