CLINTON, Miss. - The Mississippi College softball team split their Saturday doubleheader with #7 Alabama Huntsville at the MC Softball Complex, winning the first game (6-3) before falling in the second game (8-1).

The Lady Choctaws (9-5, 6-2 GSC) used a five-run third inning to score all the runs they needed for their fourth straight win. MC tied the game on a double steal by seniors Shay Mickens and pinch-runner Katilin Moak.

Senior Brooke Smitherman gave the Lady Choctaws the lead for good with a bases loaded walk. Senior Tori Bankston and junior Kimmie Conley also drove in runs in the big inning.

The Lady Chargers (11-4, 6-1 GSC) actually got on the board first in the second inning with a home run by Kaitln Bannister. They attempted a comeback in the sixth inning, scoring two but were unable to defeat the Lady Choctaws.

Mickens went 2-for-3, scoring one run on the game and Bankston went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Junior Carlie Sargent (6-1) tossed her fourth complete game of the season for MC with two strikeouts and scattering seven hits.

In the second game, the Lady Chargers got the scoring going early with two runs in the first inning on a two-run double by Bannister. They would go on to extend their lead to 8-0 through four innings.

In the fifth inning, with the bases loaded, Hux hit a ground ball to second base, allowing pinch-runner Kaitlin Moak to score and avoid the shutout.

Kimberly Jack took the win for the Lady Chargers, allowing four hits in seven innings pitched.

Senior Ashley Vann closed the game for the Lady Choctaws, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing no runs with three strikeouts.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the MC Softball Complex for the final game in the three-game series against Alabama-Huntsville.
