CLINTON, Miss. --- After 10 days away from action, the Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Thursday, Dec. 3 at the University of West Alabama. The Gulf South Conference opener is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
The outing at UWA is the first of two GSC contests this weekend as the Lady Choctaws (2-1) travel to the University of West Georgia on Sunday, Dec. 6. Tip is slated for 1 p.m. central.
MC holds a 10-8 advantage in the series with the Tigers heading into the contest on Thursday, despite falling in both outcomes last season.
Last time out, Mississippi College held off a surging Tougaloo to capture a 72-63 win over the Bulldogs.
Kristen Sampson led the Navy and Gold with a season-high 17 points while also dishing out a career-high nine assists along with a career-best four steals.
MC also received double-digit scoring efforts from
Chloe Roberts,
Allie Hill,
Mollie Blair and
Carla Clemmons. Roberts, who leads the Lady Choctaws with 19.3 points per game, finished second in scoring against the Bulldogs with 15 points. Hill, Clemmons and Blair each tabbed in 10 points in the decision.
Toni Woods fell a board shy of posting her second double figure rebounding effort of the season with nine. The junior leads the team with 26 rebounds on the season.
Zaneta Kubicka and Clemmons each recorded a pair of blocks in the contest. Clemmons leads the squad in rejections with six while Kubicka, who has 35 blocks in her career and is five shy of moving in to the top 10 in blocks, has totaled four on the campaign.
West Alabama is 3-1 on the season after having its three-game win streak snapped at Stillman, 71-62, on Monday evening. The Tigers took the first meeting against Stillman in Livingston, Ala., earlier this season along with a pair of wins over Spring Hill. Moejha Calmes and Ariel Wilson lead the Tigers in scoring. Calmes averages 15.3 while Wilson is averaging 14.0 points per game. Catherine Taylor paces the Red and White on the glass with 7.0 rebounds.
Following the weekend trip, Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 10 as it hosts Union University. Tip for the GSC outing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
