HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- Despite
Sydney Chandler's team-leading 19 assists moving her to fifth in program history, the Mississippi College volleyball team dropped a 3-1, Gulf South Conference match at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Choctaws move to 3-26 and 2-16 in conference play. UAH improves to 19-12 and 10-8 in GSC play.
Chandler, a Silverhill, Ala., native, now has 800 assists in her two-year career in Clinton as she surpassed Pollyann Scruggs, who donned the Navy and Gold from 2012-13.
Ashton King led MC with nine kills while
Arielle Laurent added a season-high seven in the match.
Bailee Berringer distributed 17 assists in the four-set match.
Alex Hackett led the defensive charge with 14 digs.
After falling in the opening two sets, 25-16 and 25-10, MC used an opening 11-4 run in the third to claim a 25-15 victory of the Chargers.
Jordan White led the offensive effort in the set with five kills. A trio of Lady Choctaws, King, Laurent and
Madison Frazier, added three kills each.
UAH narrowed the lead to 14-12, but with MC closed the set out on an 11-3 run to force the outing into the fourth set.
Kayana Mitchell also added a pair of kills.
The Chargers responded in the fourth set, taking a 25-12 decision and clinching the match behind a match-best .419 attack percentage. The Blue and White finished the affair posting a .282 clip.
Kendall Knisley and Haley Snyder paced the Chargers with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Kirsten Giles dished out a team-best 30 assists. Haley Hop and Giles each recorded double-digit digs. Hop tallied 15 digs while Giles supplied 12.
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Nov. 13 as it hosts Lee University in GSC action. Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
