Women's Basketball Preview: Tougaloo

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team looks to rebound from Saturday's setback against Spring Hill as the Lady Choctaws (1-1) host Tougaloo College on Monday, Nov. 23 in the final contest of a three-game, homestand to open the season. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
 
Monday's affair marks the fifth meeting in the series with Tougaloo – which dates back to 1976 - as the Navy and Gold holds a 4-0 advantage in the series, including three straight victories over the Bulldogs in A.E. Wood Coliseum. The two squads last faced off Dec. 8, 1994 with the Lady Choctaws claiming a 124-63 decision.
 
After two games to open the season, sophomore transfer Chloe Roberts has proved the catalyst on the offensive end. The Reagan, Tenn., native, who is averaging 21.5 points per game, scored a season-high 22 points in the setback to Spring Hill. Roberts made her MC debut with 21 points against Belhaven.
 
Roberts is just one of four players to average double figures in the scoring column in the early season. Carla Clemmons is averaging 15.5 points and is averaging 6.5 rebounds – both marks sit second on the team. The Gadsden State Community College scored 17 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds against SHC on Saturday.
 
Kristen Sampson is averaging 12.5 points per game while Allie Hill, who leads the team in assists with 14, including a career-high eight against SHC, is averaging 10 points per game. Toni Woods has paced the Lady Choctaws on the glass with 8.5 rebounds, including a season-best 10 against Belhaven in the season opener.
 
MC has combined for nine blocks through just two games. Clemmons leads the team with four blocks with Woods adding three rejections. Zaneta Kubicka, who is closing in on cracking the top 10 in career blocks, ranks third on the team with two – both coming against Spring Hill. The Wschowa, Poland, native has 33 career blocks.
 
TC enters the contest looking for its first win of the season after falling 59-54 at William Carey on Nov. 3. The Bulldogs are paced by Arnissayur Robinson with 15 points on the season. Ahsia Clayton added 10 points in the loss to the Crusaders. Dymond Jackson led the Red and Blue with eight rebounds.
 
Following the Monday affair, Mississippi College returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 3 as it opens Gulf South Conference action at the University of West Alabama. Tip in Livingston, Ala., is set for 6 p.m.
