CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the 2015-16 season as the Lady Choctaws (1-1) fell 83-76 to Spring Hill College on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The decision tied the series at 1-1 as SHC picked up its first win of the season after losing two contests against the University of West Alabama to start the season.
A trio of Lady Choctaws scored in double figures led by
Chloe Roberts' 22 points. The point-total for the sophomore edged out her previous season-best of 21 set on Tuesday evening in the opener against Belhaven.
Carla Clemmons added 17 points surpassing her season-high of 14 from Tuesday evening. The Rome, Ga., native also paced the Navy and Gold on the glass with a season-high eight rebounds.
Kristen Sampson rounded out the triplets with 14 points – her season-high and 20th contest in double-digits scoring since joining the squad last season.
A back-and-forth contest throughout, the Badgers held a 60-58 advantage after three quarters of action. A pair of Camry Johnson jumpers extended the lead to 66-58 and the Purple and White held MC at bay despite the Navy and Gold pulling within two points on a couple of different occasions.
An
Allie Hill 3-pointer to end the first half completed a comeback to tie the ballgame at 37-all at the intermission. The Hill halfcourt heave erased a 14-point advantage that SHC held in the second quarter.
SHC scored 50 of its 83 points in the paint led Leah Washington's 22 points. Tiffany Valentine also tallied 20-plus points with 20 in the contest while leading the team with nine rebounds. The Badgers outscored the Lady Choctaws in the paint by eight points.
Mississippi College returns to action on Monday, Nov. 23 as it closes its three-game homestand to open the season against Tougaloo College. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
