ROME, Ga. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team fell in straight sets at Shorter University on Friday evening in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Choctaws (2-15, 1-5 GSC) were nipped 26-24 in the final set after falling 25-14 and 25-11 in the first two sets.
Jenna Campbell led MC with five kills on the night.
Madison Frazier and
Jamila Biglow each tallied four to tie for second on the team.
Sydney Chandler provided nine assists in the match while
Bailee Berringer added six assists.
Jordan Veal added two assists.
Defensively,
Alex Hackett garnered a team-best 15 digs while Campbell tallied three blocks to lead the squad.
Aly Travani,
Jordan White and Biglow each recorded two blocks.
After SU (9-5, 7-3 GSC) claimed the first two sets, the Lady Choctaws rallied back in the third set. MC led 24-21 in the final set, but the Hawks claimed the final five points to close out the match. The Blue and Gold finished with a .068 attack percentage on the night while Shorter posted a .288 clip.
Tiffani Estep led the Hawks with nine kills in the contest while Dena Pierce dished out 22 assists. Elizabeth Dowd and Cheyenne McLemore each garnered double-digit digs with Dowd leading the way with 15. McLemore added 14.
Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 as it travels to Lee University. Match time is slated for 12 p.m. central.
