FOOTBALL PREVIEW: West Georgia

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College football team will play their second straight home game when they host top-ranked West Georgia on Saturday afternoon at Robinson-Hale Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

The Choctaws (2-5, 0-4 GSC) and the Wolves (8-0, 4-0 GSC) will meet for the 14th time on Saturday with MC holding an 8-5 edge in the series. The teams have not played in Clinton since 1993, but MC has posted a 5-1 record against UWG in the friendly confines.

Last week, the Choctaws took a 31-14 loss to Florida Tech as Mississippi College celebrated "Homecoming". Freshman quarterback Walker Meadows earned his first career start and threw for 194 yards, the most in a single game since head coach John Bland took over last season.

Junior wide receiver Marcel Newson caught seven passes for 145 yards and a score last Saturday, giving him 25 catches for 407 yards and six scores this season. The half a dozen touchdown receptions is the most in a season for a Choctaw since DeMarrion Buford-Hughes hauled in eight in 2011.

Freshman Mike Hall laeds the MC defense with 36 tackles, including a team-high 22 solo stops. Junior Reggie Bennett has 33 tackles, followed by junior Carl Rainey Jr. with 30 stops. Senior Lazarus Shelby and junior JaQarius Scott are tied for the team-lead with 3.5 tackles for loss.

The Wolves jumped to the #1 ranking in the AFCA and D2Football.com polls for the first time in school history this week. They are coming off a 31-10 win at home against nationally-ranked North Alabama last Saturday.

UWG has scored at least 27 points in all eight games this season, putting up 50 points or more twice. They have held opponents to fewer than 14 points in five games.

Senior Dallas Dickey leads the offense, passing for 13 touchdowns and just three interceptions, completing 65% of his passes. Marion Chapman leads the defense with 41 tackles, while Alex Armah has a team-high 11 tackles for loss and seven sacks.
