Lady Choctaws Cruise to 5-0 Victory at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team improved to 11-1-3 with a 5-0 victory over Millsaps College on Wednesday night at Harper Davis Field.

The Lady Choctaws recorded their 9th shutout of the season as freshman Andrea McDonald and senior Robin Cooper combined to stop two shots in the victory.

Majors' (3-13-1) goalkeeper Elise Davis kept the game close throughout the first half, making 14 saves in the match, eight of which came in the first 45 minutes.

Junior Sydney Oliver got the scoring going early with her sixth goal of the season in the 3rd minute. The eventual game-winner came on assists from senior Sayit Mejia Bello and freshman Lauren Smith.

The MC offense was held scoreless until the 37th minute when the Majors tallied an own goal to push the lead to 2-0. The teams went into the half with the two-goal difference.

In the second half, freshman Jess Davenport took over with two goals and an assist. The Widnes, England native scored in the 62nd and 70th minutes, also assisting on a goal from freshman Gaylynn Cooper in the 69th minute.

Davenport is now the team leader with nine goals on the season, pulling the feat in just eight matches played.

Freshman Daisy Rodgers assisted on Davenport's first goal, while junior Somer Anderson and freshman Julie Reid recorded helpers on the second.

Cooper's goal in the 69th minute came in her first action since September 27th against West Alabama. Just 22 seconds after the score, Davenport gave the match its final score.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Mobile to face Spring Hill at 1:00 pm.
