CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team dropped both outings in the first day of the South Region Crossover on the campus of the University of West Georgia in straight sets. MC falls to 2-19 on the season. The Blue and Gold fell 25-12, 25-20 and 25-13 in the opener against Rollins College and 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16 in the outing with Embry-Riddle.
"We still aren't where we want to be, but we proved to ourselves today that we aren't the team we were at the beginning season," said head coach
Peter Cosmiano. "We still have Florida Tech on Saturday in the Crossover before we return to Gulf South Conference action to finish out our season. Our goal is to continue to trust and fight for each other."
Shelby Grace Mays led the Lady Choctaws with 16 kills on the day, including a season-high 11 in the match against Embry-Riddle. The Arab, Ala., native was the only player for the Blue and Gold to total double-digit kills in either match on the day.
Bailee Berringer dished out a combined 23 assists in the two matches to lead the squad while
Sydney Chandler added 18 assists. The duo each totaled double-digit assists in the match with ERU as Berringer garnered 14 with Chandler adding 11 assists.
Madison Kimes recorded a team-best six digs in the outing with Rollins while Mays led the team with nine digs in the night cap.
Jenna Campbell totaled six kills against RC to pace the team.
Evelina Abdurakhmanova and Ana Pajic led ERU with double-digit kills in the final match of the day. Abdurakhmanova totaled 15 kills while Pajic added 12. Tamires recorded 28 assists while Sumerr Paxton led the defensive effort with 17 digs.
Bri Civiero led the Rollins Tars with 11 kills while MaryEllen Poole and April Jackson each totaled double-digit assists in the match. Poole dished out 22 while Jackson added 12 assists. Rebecca Wilson and Rachel Sawyer combined for 25 digs as Wilson led the team with 13. Sawyer added 12 digs.
Mississippi College's match against Florida Tech is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. central.
