CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team had a big win on Friday afternoon as they defeated Shorter University 3-1 at Longabaugh Field.
The Choctaws ( 3-8-1, 1-4-1 GSC) got on the board first when MC was awarded a penalty kick in the 27th minute of play. Sophomore
Humberto Pelaez (Panama City, Panama) took the kick placing it in the left corner to give the Choctaws the lead 1-0 to go into the half.
In the 62nd minute of play senior
Ewahia Amhanesi (Mesquite, Texas) took it down the field passing it across the goal to junior
Victor Marinho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who hit the back of the net for his second goal of the season. In the 80th minute sophomore
Bastian Busch (Bamberg, Germany) scored his third goal of the season off an assist by Marinho.
Shorter (4-7-1, 2-3 GSC) attempted to come back in the 86th minute of play as Charlie Dennis scored an unassisted goal to bring the final score to 3-1.
Pelaez made seven saves throughout the match. The Hawks goalkeeper, Austen Trevers made three saves in the game.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday as they host Lee University at Longabaugh Field at 1:00 p.m.
