MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- Freshman
Lauren Smith scored in the 107th minute on a corner kick by senior
Sayit Mejia Bello to pick up a 1-0 win over Christian Brothers University on Sunday afternoon at Signaigo Field.
The Lady Choctaws (8-1-3, 4-1-2 GSC) and the Bucs (7-4-1, 4-3-1 GSC) were scoreless through regulation and into overtime, but Mejia Bello put a corner kick into the box with just over three minutes remaining and Smith found the back of the net on a header, scoring her third goal of the season.
Both teams produced 10 shots in the match, with MC's game-winning tally being just the second shot on goal in the match.
The Bucs put four shots on net, but freshman
Andrea McDonald collected her seventh shutout of the season and third straight with four saves. She has not allowed a goal in the last 342 minutes of action.
The Lady Choctaws had been held scoreless over the last two matches after earning a scoreless draw on Friday night against Union.
MC now sits just a win or draw away from qualifying for the National Christian College Athletic Association MidEast Region Tournament to be held in November.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Friday when they will host Shorter University at 1:00 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.
